Local Restaurants dishing up discounts to owners of American-made cars in January

Earlier this month, we wrote about the benefits of buying from local businesses instead of doing all of your shopping online.  (See that post here.)  Now, a trio of local restaurants are offering big discounts for the owners of American cars (or those who make them) in the month of January.  More on this story, along with a few classic cars, after the jump . . .

Several local restaurants are offering discounts to employees of the Big Three, as well as to owners of American-made cars, in the month of January.  This is a great idea — it drums up some business for these restaurants in the notoriously slow month (for almost any business besides the gym . . . ) of January, earns them some goodwill and good press in the community, and gives a helping hand to cash-strapped patrons who are doing their best to support their state.

Tribute Restaurant (Farmington Hills)

Ford week (sorry, we’re a bit late!), was January 4-10.  See below, though, as you’ll get a second chance . . .

During Chrysler week, January 11-17, anyone driving a Chrysler vehicle or working for Chrysler will receive 50% off the food portion of their check.

GM car owners or employees get the same deal from January 18-24.

Finally, from January 25-31, ALL (here’s your chance, Ford owners!) American car-makers will get a 50% disount including American automotive suppliers and dealers.  More details here.

Gaucho Brazilian SteakHouse (Northville)

10% off lunch or dinner through January 15 for owners of American-made cars, Sunday through Thursday, excluding desserts, drinks, tax, and gratuity.  Hmm…  Tribute’s offer seems to be much more generous, eh?  That’s a lot of small print for a 10% discount.  More deets here.

Il Posto Ristorante (Southfield)

Buy or lease an American car and you get 20% off of your entire bill — including drinks!  (Take that, Gauchos).  Any night but Saturday.  411.

What is your business doing to support the local economy and its workers?  Our sponsor, Urbane Apartments, is helping out its residents who lose their income in 2009 — Lose your income, get out of your lease.  Deets here.

Smart marketting- I hope that the automakers (and more importantly, their employees) can survive the next few months. It seems from the coverage of the Auto Show in Detroit that they have some good products in the pipeline.

I agree — smart marketing. Some of them are definitely bigger discounts than others. Ten percent off, not including drinks, etc., seems to barely be worth going . . . But great to see local businesses attempting to do creative things in this, shall we say, interesting economy…

Hopefully, the Auto Show can jump-start some American car buying to help the industry out of its slump. This country depends on it!
