1. Buddy’s Pizza

Why: Buddy’s Pizza is a Detroit institution with Detroit’s original square pizza.This iconic pizza chain has locations throughout Michigan and is serving up killer pizza and other Italian fare.It is a great choice for a casual dinner out or dinner with the kiddos.
Must Try: There are so many kinds of pizza and there are menus devoted to different regions of Michigan. From the Motor City Pizza Collection, we love The Henry Ford: The Henry Ford: Motor City cheese blend, red onion, seasoned ground beef, smoked bacon, bleu cheese and tomato basil sauce. From the Great Lakes Pizza Collection, we love the Lake Huron: Motor City cheese blend, spinach artichoke blend, roasted tomatoes and fresh spinach. If you’re looking at the specialty menu, go for the Detroiter: Cheese, pepperoni on top, tomato basil sauce, topped with shaved parmesan cheese and Buddy’s Sicilian spice blend. There are also veggie pizzas, thin crust pizza and gluten free options. There are sandwiches, burgers, salads and more but we come here for the pizza.

2. Breakfast Club

Why: Breakfast Club is a cozy little spot serving up both traditional and creative American breakfast and lunch. You’ll feel right at home here with friends and family as you share a table and some delicious eats.
Must Try: The Oven Baked French Toast is a crowd favorite and well loved menu item. It is baked French toast topped with streusel, French berries, blueberries and raspberry sauce. YUM! People who love sweet breakfasts, need to order this. We also love the Breakfast Nachos: tortilla chips smothered with scrambled eggs, chorizo sausage, jack and cheddar cheeses and topped with black olives, jalapenos, tomatoes and scallions.  We’re also big fans of the Spinach, Tomato & Feta Omelet. The Jumbo Lump Crab Cake Benedict: house made crab cakes and soft poached eggs over a grilled English muffin, topped with hollandaise sauce. YUM!

3. Basement Burger Bar

Why: Basement Burger Bar is the go to place for burgers in Farmington. The build your own burger option has people coming back to test the limits of their stomachs and burger topping creativity.It is is a casual spot with plenty of eats and huge portions so plan of feeling a bit guilt after you indulge here.
Must Try: You can build your own burgers and salads here, or order off a set menu. There are so many flavor combinations and toppings, you can create the burger of your dreams.   You choose your own protein, from turkey burgers, to bison or kobe beef, you have plenty of options for your burger base. There are even vegetarian options like black bean burgers of a portabella mushroom cap. If the build your own menu is too overwhelming, which it can be, go for the double cheese burger. It is a ton of foot but oh so good. If you’re after a bit of everything, go for the Basement Junk Burger: 8 oz. ground beef burger loaded with homemade red pepper mayo, spicy ketchup, garlic mayo and smoked BBQ ketchup, lettuce, pickle, apple cider smoked bacon, mozzarella sticks, fried pickles, caramelized onions and onion straws, topped off with nacho cheese sauce.

4. Tomatoes APizza

Why: For a wood fired pizza experience, go to Tomatoes APizza. It is a completely different style of pizza than Buddy’s Pizza (which we also love). The Neapolitan stlye pizza is chewy, crispy and has a slightly charred crust from the wood fired oven. You’ve got to try it! They also have yummy pasta and salads.
Must Try: You order your base: red, white, green, classic or crab and add the toppings you want. We like the Green Pizza (mozzarella, spinach and garlic) with some of our favorite toppings like sausage and mushroom. The Caprese Salad (Tomato Slices, Fresh Mozzarella, Basil and Balsamic Vinaigrette) is also a favorite menu item.

5. El Patio Mexican Restaurant

Why: Don’t let the low-key, casual atmosphere deter you! El Patio Mexican Restaurant has some of the very best Mexican food in Farmington Hills. El Patio has cheap, yummy Mexican eats and is a great stop for a casual lunch or dinner.
Must Try: We love ordering the fajitas. Sizzling hot chicken or beef served with yummy toppings like grilled green pepper and onions, quacamole and pico de gallo. The chimichangas and burritos are also delicious. The prices are pretty low which make it even better for mixing it up and ordering a few different items to share with your dining companions.
