For metro Detroit Foodies who want a real fast food treat, go to Zack’s Hotdogs on Dequindre in Warren. Almost everything at Zack’s is made-from-scratch homemade. There is also “Cheli’s” chili on the menu, as well as Hot Dog Nachos, Sweet Potato Fries and Fried Mac & Cheese Bites.
Zack’s has 18 different Specialty Dogs on the menu, 4 kinds of Sausages, a Footlong and a Junior Dog for the kids.
Gus Malliaras (yes, he’s Greek and the blogger’s 4th cousin) is the owner of Zack’s. Gus grinds his own beef for their 1/2 pound burgers or “NotDogs”. He uses 3 different cuts of beef: brisket, short rib and sirloin. There’s also a secret ingredient that truly enhances the flavor of ground beef.
Gus has some great culinary genes. His Grandfather was the late Gus Anton, owner of the acclaimed and not forgotten New Hellas Restaurant in Detroit’s Greektown. (May Gus and the New Hellas RIP and their memory be eternal.)
HotDogs or NotDogs: Can’t decide which to order? The Big Zack Burger is a 1/2 pound hamburger AND it’s topped with grilled hotdog slices, bacon, and 2 slices of cheddar cheese.
If you are looking for a lighter meal, try the Turkey Club and one Zack’s 4 salad bowls. Zack’s homemade sides include Mac & Cheese, Smashed red skin potatoes, Fries with a special homemade french fry sauce and Onion rings. If you have a hankering for Wings, Zack’s got those too. For dessert, treat yourself to Frozen Cheesecake on a Stick dipped in chocolate. Zack’s also caters parties and corporate lunches.
