So you thought the Detroit Zoo was only for kids and families?

Wrong.

The Social Connection has planned a bunch of grown-up-friendly events this summer at the Detroit Zoo that combine party animal fun and new reasons to discover the animals and the grounds.

Summer “Zoomance” at the Detroit Zoo, Thursday, July 12 and Thursday, Aug. 23
After the gates of the zoo close to the little ones, they reopen at 6 p.m. for to let those who are 21-and over stroll the grounds, take a ride on the train and the new carousel, and enjoy beer and cocktails at the Rackham Fountain to the jazzy sounds of the Kris Johnson Group. Don’t have a sweetie to hold hands for a stroll through the park? You may find one here! Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the gate.

Wild Beasts, Wild Wines, Friday, July 27
Check out how the animal kingdom settles in before and after nightfall with the zookeepers while sampling wines from local and national wineries and vineyards at the zoo. Ben Sharkey will be playing the tunes and food will be available for purchase. Admission includes 10 wine tasting tickets. Reduced-fee designated driver tickets include all-you-can-drink soft drinks.

Zoo Brew at the Detroit Zoo, Friday, Sept. 28
Michigan craft brewers will bring their offerings for a special night at the zoo with complimentary tram tours of the zoo, zookeeper talks, strolls on the new boardwalk over the Cotton Family Wetlands, and live music with The Hard Lessons. Tickets include zoo admission, parking and 12 beer-tasting tickets. Kinda gives a whole new meaning to lions and tigers and … beers!
