Low Cal Cocktails for a Cool & Confident Summer

It happens every year – all that hard work over the fall and winter months is kissed goodbye after a weekend or two of beerpong by the pool. If you’re like me,  the waist band expands as the temperatures rise and that’s not the look anyone is going for poolside. Here are a few bikini-friendly cocktails that are sure to keep you cool and confident all summer long.

Cherry Smash:  161 calories

  • 1 cup(s) pitted fresh or frozen (thawed) cherries
  • 1/4 cup(s) fresh mint leaves, plus 4 sprigs for garnish
  • 8 teaspoon(s) sugar
  • 6 ounce(s) (3/4 cup) dark rum
  • 1/4 cup(s) lime juice
  • 3 cup(s) cherry-flavored seltzer

Best when made with Traverse City Cherries. Divide cherries, mint leaves, and sugar among 4 glasses. Mash everything together with the back of a wooden spoon. Stir in rum and lime juice. Fill glasses with ice and top with seltzer. Garnish with fresh mint. 

Monkeylada: 228 calories

  • 2  very ripe bananas
  • 1 cup(s) diced fresh pineapple, plus 4 wedges for garnish
  • 1 cup(s) pineapple juice
  • 1/2 cup(s) “lite” coconut milk (see Tips & Techniques)
  • 3 cup(s) ice cubes
  • 6 ounce(s) (3/4 cup) light rum

A twist on the classic and calorie laden Pina Colada. Puree bananas, diced pineapple, pineapple juice, coconut milk, and ice in a blender. Stir in rum. Divide among 4 glasses. Garnish with pineapple wedges.

Farmers Market Margarita: 130 calories

  • 1.25 ounces Patron Silver
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • 2 ounces distilled water
  • Agave nectar to taste
  • 1 Sprig of cilantro
  • 4 cucumber slices
  • 2 slices of fresh jalapeno

Add all the ingredients in a mixing glass with ice, shake and serve over the rocks in an 8 oz. glass. Garnish with a lime wheel and pickled okra.
