Mr. West has teamed up with Nike for a second sneaker collaboration termed – Air Yeezy II. The new kicks will hit stores including one in Royal Oak this Saturday, June 9.
The first collaboration – Air Yeezy, an endearing term for West, launched in 2009 and ultimately sold online for more than $1000, then they left the warehouse with an MSRP price of $220. Since the launch of Air Yeezy, West has created his own fashion line dubbed DW by Kanye West, which showed at Paris Fashion Week 2012, and now collaborates with coveted designer Giuseppe Zanotti, but sneakers have always been a passion for West, who told Thread NY that he had been designing sneakers in his sketch pad since grade school… awww, cute!
Air Yeezy II has a slim silhouette with elaborate details such as hieroglyphics (YZY) and a snake-like texture. The limited edition sneakers are retailed at $245 but most stores will be selling for much more.
When I contacted Burn Rubber in Royal Oak on 4th Street the shop keeper told me Kanye’s kicks would sell for $1000 – oh, for the love of shoes!
Sneaker aficionados have posted outside the Burn Rubber entrance for days hoping to get their hands on a pair. Will you be joining them?
