In anticipation of the 2012 Motown Winter Blast, the Urbane Life will be highlighting some of our favorite local bands that will be taking the stage at this year’s event.

60 Second Crush

Reigning ‘Outstanding Hard Rock Act’ (Detroit Music Awards 2008 and 2011), 60 Second Crush revel in bringing their “full throttle” brand of hard rock to the denizens of Detroit. By all accounts, they live for it. What’s more, the band has headlined hard rock festivals in Mexico, Germany, and the Netherlands. Shit’s bona fide. The band took some time out of their busy hard rocking schedule to answer our Urbane Life & Motown Winter Blast questionnaire:

Q: What’s your favorite thing about winter in Michigan?

A: When it snows for the first time – going outside and feeling like you’re inside a giant snow globe -it feels pretty magical -that is until the car won’t start or you have to shovel your drive!

Q: What’s the best way to stay warm?

A: The absolute best way to stay warm is to play some scorching hot rock and roll – which is what we plan to do at Winter Blast!

Q: What was your favorite thing to do when school was cancelled?

A: Sleep in! We rockers like to stay up late…even when we were in high school!

60 Second Crush is playing at the Motown Winter Blast today, Saturday February 11th. They take the Flagstar Bank Stage at 4:30pm. Click HERE for a listen.

MJ Galbraith

MJ Galbraith

MJ Galbraith is a songwriter and local musician, freelance writer, baseball enthusiast, lover of travel, and a terrible mechanic. When MJ graduated from Central Michigan University with a degree in Creative Writing, he was immediately barraged with 'questions' of "What are you gonna do, teach?" He is determined to not get a job teaching. So far, so good. With music, MJ's traveled the country touring on his songs. Having spent time in places from Chicago to Seattle, LA to New Orleans, and Nashville to NYC, he is convinced that Detroit and its 'burbs have the the highest concentration of 'native' songwriting talent anywhere. Eat it, New York. You too, LA. MJ started writing for the Urbane Life in the summer of 2011. He also writes for a handful of other websites as well as an immigration lawyer. He used to work in a publishing house. He's glad he's out.
