New Way Bar has been booking emerging and established local bands for decades, so it’s only fitting that they will be kicking off the 10th Annual Ferndale Blues and Music Festival this Friday. It’s almost unheard of, a family owned bar in business for over 75 years, but New Way Bar has been a neighborhood fixture in Ferndale for decades.
In a typical week the bar features an eclectic mix of music and themed events, but it’s all about the tunes from January 27 – February 4. New Way Bar welcomes festival goers at 7:00 on Friday for shot specials, including their famous alcohol infused whipped cream shots, and a 50/50 raffle to benefit charity.
Acts kicking off the Ferndale Blues and Music Festival at New Way Bar include:
7:00 PM – Kingshead
8:00 PM – Acoustic music from singer/songwriter AJ
9:00 PM – Looking up at Down
11:00 PM – Blues by Erich Goebel and the Flying Crowbars
Later in the week you can visit New Way Bar for other acts including techno music with Rapper Diesel, The Hitman, DJ Thrilla, JP from HP, Pony Boy, Animal Planet, SMD and many more on Saturday, Jan. 28. An open jam session with Brian Miller is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 1, and don’t miss the musical stylings from Royal Oak’s Detroit School of Rock on Saturday Feb. 4.
New way bar is located at 23130 Woodward in Ferndale but don’t blink, you might miss it. For more information about the Ferndale Blues and Music Festival visit http://www.ferndalebluesfestival.org/.
