As much as some of you dread to lose the warmer, longer days of summer  (sigh) the reality is, Winter’s a-Coming. The best way to welcome the old man is with preparation and egg nog or hot cocoa, your choice.

Following closely behind your health, your vehicle is often the next to go during the blistery cold months. So here are a few things you should know about winterizing your car for what’s to come:

  • It doesn’t matter if your car is old or new. Between the pothole-a-palooza and Michigan’s infamous wintry mix, your car needs a little extra T.L.C.
  • Be sure all your cars parts are in top working condition. Neglect is akin to termites. Check oil & fluids, battery, wipers, belts, hoses, tire pressure, four-wheel-drive system, brakes, air & fuel emissions.
  • Invest in an Emergency Kit. It should include (at least): flashlight, small shovel, flares, ice scraper, blanket & warm clothes, inflated spare tire & jack, jumper cables, wiper fluid, bag of salt/kitty litter, water & non-perishable food, first aid kit, tool kit and a gas can.
  • Your trusted mechanic is as important an investment as your car itself. Include your auto aficionado on your Christmas list for good measure. :-)
