Royal Oak Winery offers Valentine’s tasting event

Thinking about what to get for your sweethart this Valentine’s Day?

Lucky for you, Vintner’s Cellar in Royal Oak is offering three special wines for the holiday.

Love Potion #9 is a sweet cherry wine with hints of chocolate, which they make special for Feb. 14. You can snag a bottle for $13.95.

Icing is a pure Ice Wine, made from grapes that have been frozen on the vine, and then pressed while still frozen. The result is a somewhat sweet wine that is loaded with character and charm. $23.95

Chocolate Kiss is a best seller at Vintner’s Cellar—think a tart cherry and chocolate port. It’s like biting into a chocolate covered cherry! I’ve sampled this a few times and can tell you that it is well worth the $23.95 per bottle.

Not into the sweet stuff? Vintner’s Cellar offers a selection of other red, white, rose and fruit wines that can be custom labeled for Valentine’s Day. My favorites include 4th Street Blend—a cabernet and merlot blend, nicely balanced with oak and hints of plum. I also enjoy the Zin Rouge, a red Zinfandel that is dark, peppery and full bodied.

Coming up on Saturday, February 12, Noon – 5 p.m., Vintner’s Cellar is offering a tasting of the above three custom wines paired with three decadent chocolates from Gayle’s in Royal Oak. So you can taste and choose which one you like best. You get to sample an additional two more wines with this deal, which they offer for the reasonable price of $15 per person. No brainer, eh?

Vintner’s Cellar is a custom winery that offers patrons the opportunity to taste, purchase and even make their own wine. The front of the house has comfortable chairs and a wine bar. Glass kegs of wine rest across from the bar area, in various stages of aging. Patrons are invited to taste any product, discuss the nose, palate and texture, and purchase a glass, or a bottle off the shelf. There’s even free wi-fi so you can bring a laptop and get a little work done!
