Let the season of countdowns begin. Detroit kicks off the festive season tonight, Nov. 19th with a flurry of lights at Campus Martius Park thanks to the Detroit 300 Conservancy and the DTE Energy Foundation. The 2010 Detroit Tree Lighting Ceremony begins at 5 p.m. sharp – so be sure to head to the city center right after work tonight.
If you’re feeling ambitious, you may want to strap on some ice skates for a spin around Campus Martius’ own outdoor skating rink. It officially opens for the season tonight. There will be plenty of time to secure your spot by purchasing rink-side tickets at Fountain Bistro before the tree lighting presentation begins – at 6:45 p.m. WMCG’s Jim Harper and Chris Edmunds are on tap to host the evening’s festivities, which also include live music by singer Ty Stone, retro party band the Mega 80′s and R&B favorites HotSauce.
Take in the sights downtown with a horse-drawn carriage ride or have your photo snapped with the man himself – Santa. Yes, it’s already that time of year. Get in the giving spirit because the red kettles will be out in full force, with a kick-off campaign running from 6-6:45 p.m.
The party will rock on until midnight in Campus Martius. To keep up with the program, check out www.campusmartiuspark.org.
