Kim and I were on our way home last night from work, and much to our surprise there were two Humvee’s blocking main Street. just North of Main, then we saw several army looking dudes with machine guns. Little did we know at the time, it was Red Dawn being filmed. Kind of freaked us out at first. It is pretty cool how many movies are being filmed here in MI

Royal Oak (WWJ) — It’s the making or Red Dawn — the sequel.
WWJ Newsradio 950’s Ron Dewey reports film crews have moved from Mount Clemens to Royal Oak to film a chase scene and neighbors are hot on their tail. As a result of the filming, Rochester Road is expected to be shutdown much of Wednesday between 12 and 13 Mile roads.
Residents have been snapping photos of the set along Wagoner Park, where crews are busy filming a chase scene.
Set trucks and military Humvees being used in the chase have been seen parked along neighborhood streets.
Don Heirchue lives about a mile from the neighborhood where filming is taking place for the remake of “Red Dawn.”
He was curious enough to swing over.
“Just wanted to see some movie action film making, that’s all,” he said. “Kind of neat…lot of standing around waiting, then they say ‘action’, they take off and that’s it. Ha!”
Joy Chaun said it has been the talk at her daughter’s school this week, so she came to the set to see what happens behind the camera.
“I was talking with one of the stunt men, he seems real nice,” she said. As far as getting the inside scoop? “They really don’t know what’s going to happen until they get called on…they seem to wait for a long time.”
Chaun and Heirchue say its exciting to see their area get some attention from Hollywood, and hope it will help the local economy. Other neighbors snapping photos of the behind-the-scenes goings on say they plan to have viewing parties after the film comes out next fall.
“Red Dawn” is set to be released in theatres in Septmber 2010.
