Stuff to Do: the Ferndale Blues Festival

Ferndale’s Got the Blues

The eighth annual Ferndale Blues Festival is on!  The festival, which features about sixty live concerts at numerous venues in downtown Ferndale, is being held from January 23 – 31. Also, this year, there’s going to be a “Rib Burn Off” on Saturday, Jan. 31. in a 4000 Sq Ft heated tent, behind Dinos ($10 entry!).  A little history about the festival, a map of the venues, and info regarding the  free shuttle that is waiting to ferry you around during weekends, after the jump . . .

In 2001, a group of volunteers got together in Ferndale Michigan to organize a city-wide Blues Festival to raise money for charity. Clubs, restaurants, and bars in downtown Ferndale were invited to host live blues concerts during a weekend in January 2002, donating cover charges and raising funds through raffles and sponsorships. The committee organized extensive public relations and advertising efforts, promoting the event as a way to deal with the ‘winter blues.’ The events were very successful, and thousands of dollars were donated to Ferndale Youth Assistance.  –Ferndale Blues Festival Website

Thanks for all of the local coverage! For such a small city, this website is really becoming a wonderful resource. Ribs & Blues -sounds like a plan for me & the mister!

  • Brandon

Ha, thanks for the comments and compliment, Babs. I agree — $10 for ribs sounds like a great deal. Does anyone know which bands are the best/ most interesting to see?

  • Frank P

I haven’t been to this since the year of the Superbowl, but will try to go back, hopefully this weekend. Nice to see competitors working together on this project.

Go! You’ll love it. We went this weekend and were able to hit three different spots. Take a designated driver and turn it into a pub crawl since you never know who’s giong to be at what spot.
