Ferndale’s Got the Blues
The eighth annual Ferndale Blues Festival is on! The festival, which features about sixty live concerts at numerous venues in downtown Ferndale, is being held from January 23 – 31. Also, this year, there’s going to be a “Rib Burn Off” on Saturday, Jan. 31. in a 4000 Sq Ft heated tent, behind Dinos ($10 entry!). A little history about the festival, a map of the venues, and info regarding the free shuttle that is waiting to ferry you around during weekends, after the jump . . .
In 2001, a group of volunteers got together in Ferndale Michigan to organize a city-wide Blues Festival to raise money for charity. Clubs, restaurants, and bars in downtown Ferndale were invited to host live blues concerts during a weekend in January 2002, donating cover charges and raising funds through raffles and sponsorships. The committee organized extensive public relations and advertising efforts, promoting the event as a way to deal with the ‘winter blues.’ The events were very successful, and thousands of dollars were donated to Ferndale Youth Assistance. –Ferndale Blues Festival Website
