The holiday season is here and that means holiday shopping, bright twinkling lights, cold weather and time with family. This month Detroit is coming alive with family friendly, fun holiday events across the city. Grab your winter coat, and get out exploring with friends and family. Whether you live in Berkley, Birmingham, Clawson, Dearborn, Detroit, Ferndale or Royal Oak, there are plenty of things to do to get into the holiday spirit.We’ve got the top holiday events around Detroit!

Detroit Holiday Events:

Noel Night in Midtown Detroit

When: Saturday December 5, 2015 (5pm – 10 pm)
Where: Midtown Detroit
What: Head over to Midtown Detroit for Noel Night as Detroit’s art museums, cultural centers, science institutions and over 200 local theater, music and dance groups come together for this celebratory night. Plus there will be horse drawn carriage rides, crafts for the kids and a traditional carol singalong led by the Salvation Army Band.Eat, drink and be merry in Detroit.

Menorah in the D

When: Sunday December 6, 2015 (3pm -8pm)
Where:  Campus Martius Park (800 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48226)
What: Menorah in the D kicks off this fifth annual event with a family festival! There will be marshmallow roasting, a zip line and much more! The centerpiece for this event is the giant menorah that towers over Campus Martius. The Menorah Lighting takes place at 5pm with the added help of fire jugglers, and acrobats. This event is free and there will even be an after party at the Cadillac Square heated tent.

After Dark: Holiday Mixology

When: December 17th, 2015 5:00pm-8:00pm
Where: Michigan Science Center (5020 John R Street. Detroit, MI 48202)
What: Come spend your Thursday Happy Hour at After Dark: Holiday Mixology in our newest exhibit, Toytopia! Your entrance includes one drink ticket, there will also be a cash bar. Doors open at 5:00pm. We will be showcasing the prettiest and tastiest holiday drink recipes with samples for all! Be sure to invite your friends and experience the Michigan Science Center in a way like never before. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online or at the door.

Mannheim Steamroller Christmas by Chip Davis

When: Friday December 18, 2015
Where: Fox Theatre (2211 Woodward Ave. Detroit, MI 48201)
What: Enjoy your holiday favorites done with an electronic and rock twist. Mannheim Steamrollers blend orchestral sounds and electronic elements at this unique Christmas concert. Listen to the music while an incredible light show and illustrations dance across projection screens on stage. This family friendly event will have you feeling the magic of the season.

Campus Martius Park Ice Skating Rink

When: November 20, 2015 – January 2, 2016
Where: Campus Martius Park (800 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48226)
What: Come to the outdoor skating rink at Campus Martius Park. Bring the whole family for some chilly fun. Hours are: Monday – Thursday from 11am-10pm. Friday from 11am- Midnight. Satruday from 10am – Midnight. Saturday from Noon to 8pm.

Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker

When: December 20, 2015
Where: Fox Theatre (2211 Woodward Ave. Detroit, MI 48201)

Cirque Dreams: Holidaze

When: December 22-27, 2015
Where: Fox Theatre (2211 Woodward Ave. Detroit, MI 48201)
What: Holidaze is a magical holiday show that brings ornaments to life as a group of 30 performers from around the globe perform incredible acrobatic feats on stage. There will be classic holiday carols you recognize as well as original songs accompanying the dances and movements on stage. Children and adults alike will be mesmerized by this show.

Birmingham Holiday Events:

Birmingham Santa House
When: November 25-December 24, 2015
Where: Shain Park (S Bates St. and W Merrill St., Birmingham, MI, 48009)
What: Come visit Santa and his elves at the Birmingham Santa House this holiday season. Located in Shain Park, this is one of the most popular attractions during the holiday season. Take the kiddos and snap a photo for your Christmas card.

Birmingham Carriage Rides

When: November 25, 2015 – December 19, 2015 (weekends)
Where: Downtown Birmingham (corner of Henrietta & Merrill)
What: Take a carriage ride with loved ones through Downtown Birmingham. Stop for some holiday shopping or a warm restaurant Downtown. The carriage rides are free and on a first-come, first-served basis.

Birmingham Winter Markt

When: December 4 – 6, 2015 (Friday 3pm-9pm; Saturday 10am-9pm; Sunday 11am-4pm)
Where: Shain Park  (S Bates St. and W Merrill St., Birmingham, MI, 48009)
What: You’ll be feeling festive at the Birmingham Winter Markt! Sample European food and rinks, shop for unique gift items, and check out ice carving demonstrations, live reindeer, warming stations, and the Kinderhaus Children’s activity area. Plus there will be horse drawn carriage rides and Santa House will be open to all attendees.

Berkley Holiday Events:

Holiday Lights Parade

When: Saturday December 5, 2015
Where: Berkley City Hall
What: Bring the whole family out for the tree lighting ceremony sponsored by the Berkley Junior Women’s Club. There will be a parade followed by a visit with Santa in the gazebo in front of City Hall after the Tree Lighting Ceremony. There will even be horse-drawn carriage rides! It is a great way to get into the spirit of season.

Clawson Holiday Events:

Clawson Christmas Tree Lighting

When: Monday, December 7, 2015 (6:30pm)
Where: Memorial Park at Blair Memorial Library (416 N Main St Clawson, Michigan 48017)
What: Head to the Clawson Library for the tree lighting and arrival of Santa Claus on a firetruck. There will be caroling through the streets, plus hot chocolate, cookies and a visit with Santa. All ages are welcome!

Dearborn Holiday Events:

Tree Lighting and Singalong

When: Monday December 7, 2015 (6pm)
Where: Ford Community & Performing Arts Center (15801 Michigan Ave, Dearborn, MI 48126)
What: This FREE community event brings he people of Dearborn together to watch the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree. Plus there will be a holiday singalong and a visit from Santa!

Holiday Nights in Greenfield Village

When: December 4-28, 2015 (6:30pm – 10:00pm)
Where: Greenfield Village (20900 Oakwood, Dearborn, MI 48124)
What: Holiday Nights in Greenfield Village will transport you into a Christmas from the past. Enjoy roasted chestnuts, the sound of Carolers and the jingle of sleigh bells as you stroll through town. Walk down lantern-lit paths, marvel at a fireworks show, and go ice skating at one of the most popular holiday events in the region. This family friendly event is a wonderful holiday celebration that will whisk you away to winter wonderland.

Ferndale Holiday Show Place Arts and Craft Show

When: Saturday December 5, 2015 (10am-4pm)
Where: Kulick Community Center (1201 Livernois, Ferndale, Michigan 48220)
What: Head on over to the Kulick Community Center for arts and crafts for the kiddos, concessions and food, and plenty of holiday fun! Admission is only $1

Ferndale Holiday Ice Festival 2015

When: Saturday, December 12, 2015
Where: Downtown Ferndale, Michigan
What: The Holiday Ice Festival is back again with frosty fun for the whole family! This hometown celebration brings you ice sculptures, live reindeer, hay-rides, a visit from Santa Claus and more! Downtown Ferndale comes alive as a winter wonderland for one day only so don’t miss out!

Holiday Events in Royal Oak:

Detroit Zoo Wild Lights 2015

When: November 20 – December 31, 2015 (5:30pm – 9:30pm)
Where: Detroit Zoo (8450 W. 10 Mile Rd., Royal Oak, MI 48067)
What: The Detroit Zoo comes alive this holiday season for 24 nights in November and December. More than five million LED lights will illuminate the trees, and buildings with brightly lit animal sculptures on a half-mile trail through the zoo.

Tree Lighting Ceremony and Royal Oak Holiday Magic Marketplace

When: Thursday December 3, 2015 (4pm – 9pm)
Where: Royal Oak Farmers Market (316 E 11 Mile Road, Royal Oak, Michigan)
What: The Royal Oak Farmers Market will host a Holiday Marketplace before, during and after the City Tree Lighting Ceremony. There will be antiques, collectibles, crafts and more from over 60 local crafters, artisans and downtown merchant booths. The tree lighting takes place at pm – Don’t miss it!
