The Detroit Jazz Festival Continues to Dazzle

For it’s 35th year, The Detroit Jazz Festival is gracing downtown Detroit with a lineup straight from a Jazz enthusiasts wildest dreams. The festival began yesterday, Friday August 29th and is running through Labor Day weekend, coming to a close September 1st.  The festival is being held at its usual site at Hart Plaza and Campus Martius Park.

One of their featured artists is Artist in Residence Joshua Redman, a saxophonist as well as composer. His self-titled debut album received a Grammy Nomination in 1993, and just last year released his album Walking Shadows in 2013. During the festival he will not only be featured as a playing musician but will also being doing a special concert in commemoration of the Civil Rights movement.

Being the largest free Jazz Festival in the world, the festival attracts an impressive lineup every year, this year featuring the likes of Joshua Redman, Barbara Morrison, Bob Belden The Gary Burton Quintet, Bucky Pizzarelli, as well as several other world-renowned Jazz musicians. Several stages and an ever-revolving door of talent will keep any Jazz fan quite busy this holiday weekend!
